No. 5/20 - World-class engineering services “made in Peine”

07/13/2020: The BGE subsidiary BGE Technology GmbH turns 20.

On 13 July 2020, BGE TECHNOLOGY GmbH (BGE TEC) from Peine will be 20 years old. BGE TEC is a subsidiary of the Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH and is responsible for innovations and research and development in the area of the final disposal of radioactive waste. Within the last 20 years, BGE TEC has developed into an internationally recognised engineering company for repository projects of various kinds.

BGE TEC was founded in 2000 with only two employees. The goal then was: to maintain and further develop technical expertise for the final disposal of radioactive materials. Today, 36 engineers and scientists from eight nations work for BGE TEC in Peine. Whenever questions of stability in the mines, closure structures, and building materials are involved, the BGE can rely on the expertise and decades of experience of its subsidiary.

Over the past 20 years, BGE TEC has worked on more than 70 research and development projects and has been involved in well over 100 contracts for various companies in Germany and abroad. These include the planning of a near-surface repository for intermediate-level radioactive waste in Bulgaria, support for repository planning in Bure/France for ANDRA (the French organisation responsible for the disposal and final storage of radioactive waste generated there), and the remediation of a repository in the Czech Republic.

Managing Director Dr Thilo von Berlepsch: “In the last financial year alone, we worked for 15 national and international programmes for the final disposal of radioactive waste. Crucial to the success of our company is the highly motivated and highly qualified team”.
