08 November 2017: Exchange of supports for the lower sheave platform
Refurbishment activities are a daily challenge at the Konrad mine. Over the last few weeks, workers exchanged two supports for the lower sheave platform in the headgear. The sheave platform holds the bearings of the sheaves. They serve to guide the winding rope.
The preliminary disassembly activities were performed with the help of a 200 tons crane. An even larger crane with a maximum load of 500 tons finally lifted the new supports (2.70 metres high, 11 metres long and with a weight of 10 tons) to a height of 38 metres.
The next step was to install back beams and wind bracing that will stabilise the headgear. These activities were accomplished by the end of October.
